Climate of Kütahya is a transition between climates of the Aegean, Marmara and Internal Anatolia Regions. The rain regime of the area is like the rain regime of Marmara, and the hotness of the weather is like Internal Anatolia.

Ancient Cities

Ancient Cities
Kultepe (Kanis Karum) Literally meaning Hill of Ashes, this settlement dates back to 4000 BC and is 20km northeast of Kayseri. It composes of an Assyrian trading colony called Karum, and a tumulus 500m diameter and 22m high. The town of Kanis was prominent from around 2500 BC, and it was the centre of Anatolia’s most prominent kingdom. It is possible to pick out the houses, roads and shops from the site, which is accessible to visitors, and is opposite the tumulus. It is now a famous open-air museum, having been rediscovered in 1881. Excavations since then have unearthed items from Assyrian, Roman, Persian and Hittite periods, including letters on tablets of stone written in the Assyrian language which are the oldest written documents of Anatolia. The best of the finds are exhibited in the Museum of Anatolian Civilisation in Ankara.

Kuş Castle: It is thought that Kuş castle, which is near to Kaman is constructed during Hittite Period and used until the end of Byzantium Period.
Keçi Castle: It is at north east of Kızılca village, of Kirşehir center. Today’s height of the wall ruins of the castle, constructed by Byzantium, is 2 - 3 m. It is one of the biggest castles of Kirşehir. (more…)

Castles
Şavşat (Satel) Castle: The castle placed at Söğütlü Quarter, in Şavşat County, was built by Bagratlı Kingdom in the 9th century, it is also used by Ottomans too. Today castle is abandoned but still most parts of high tower and rampart walls remain.

Artvin Castle (Livane) it is tied to main rock 70 meter above the river base opposite of Artvin Bridge that on the Çoruh River. Castle built by Bagratlı Kingdom in the middle of 10th century. It takes attention with high tower.

Ardanuç (Guhernik) Castle It is placed at Ardanuç county, in Adakale area. Castle that one of the most important castles of region, premium sample with it’s interior castle and city formation surrounded by city walls. It takes attention with inscription of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman (Great Suleyman) beside the ruins dated to ancient periods.

Kocaeli

Kocaeli is the city that takes place on the highway and railroad connecting Istanbul to Anatolia. The name of the city was Nicomedeia in the times of Roman Empire. Today it is a very industrial center for Turkey.

The Saatçi Ali Efendi Mansion in the city, which is a very interesting example of 18th century Ottoman Civil Architecture, had been restorated and now being used as Ethnography Museum.

“Pişmaniye” which is the local dessert of kocaeli is made by giving the sugar the shape of fibre.
